The Roteiros de Charme Hotel Association currently brings together 70 hotels, pousadas (inns), ecological refuges, historic farms and manor houses, in 16 states and 61 tourism destinations from north to south Brazil,
Founded in 1992 as a non-profit private sector association, its members are selected annually by the variety of their features and independent personalities, according to strict criteria as to comfort, quality of service and environmental responsibility – always in an economically viable and sustainable manner.
It is an initiative consistent with products in the “luxury”, “thematic hotels”, “wellness”, “boutique hotels” sectors, that practice hôtellerie that combines quality of service and social and ethical responsibility.
The year 1999 saw the adoption of its, nationally and internationally recognised, Code of Ethics and Environmental Conduct, which was elaborated in cooperation with UN Environment – the United Nations body responsible for the environment, in Paris, with whom the Association has a formal cooperation agreement since 2003.
Inspired by this code of conduct the Roteiros de Charme’s Sustainability Programme is fully aligned with the concept of Sustainable Tourism and Geotourism, defined as “tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character of a place – its environment, heritage, aesthetics, culture, and the well-being of its residents”, through the permanent involvement of Associated Hotels, their staff, suppliers, service providers, guests and local communities.
By taking our message beyond our Associated Hotels, and inviting all hotels and entities in the tourism sectors in our regions to participate in our quality and sustainability programme, our Association’s objectives are broadened beyond our hotels, pousadas (inns) and ecological refuges.
